Could you imagine going right from the couch to running a 5k?
And yet we do this to ourselves spiritually all the time.
Circumstances beyond our control seem to test our ability to cope with hope. We face mountains and walls in our homes… in our vocations. We sometimes are face having to run spiritual 5ks and we haven’t trained.
This is where the classic spiritual exercises come into play. Learn and practice the spiritual exercises so that when you need to run the race that’s set before you in life, you’ll have the strength and endurance for the task at hand.
Such practices we will be exploring are simple and they are not uncomfortable or outlandish. They’re ancient and have transformed the lives of millions who regularly practice them.

To learn these practices, we will meet on Wednesday Evenings from 6-7:30 and use the best-selling, highly-praised course The Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster. Rev. Phil will be facilitating this course.
A note on the word “discipline”
Don’t let the word discipline throw you. Discipline is not about punishment (as it’s so often used to describe) but rather, discipline (e.g. disciple, discipling… student/teacher) is a path, a teaching, a practice that leads toward right thinking and action.
We will be trying out the online class opportunity for this course as well. So for those of you with schedules or personality profiles that make meeting on Wednesday difficult, there will be an online version of this class offered!
