“Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.” -John 12:26
I used to have an office in a very large and beautiful house that was built in 1894. All of us who worked there would share stories about strange occurrences that would happen when only one of us was in the office to witness it.
A new person came on staff and as I was showing him around the office another staff-member asked me if I had told the new guy about “George.”
That’s what we named the strange presence we all had experienced.
So we got into a conversation with new guy about “George.” We all had a good laugh about it because it was daytime and the office was bustling.
About 9 o’clock that night I got a phone call from the new guy.
“Thanks a lot,” he said, “I was working along just fine at my desk until I looked up and realized that I was alone and it was dark out. I didn’t experience anything, mind you, but I sure wasn’t going to wait around to see if anything would happen. I’ve never hightailed it out of a place quicker in my life!”
He never worked alone late at night in that house ever again!
Here’s the deal that Jesus offers, “follow me and you will never be left alone in the dark again. All you have to do is serve me…follow me.”
I’ve walked in the dark alone.
I’d rather follow the person with the light and a very good sense of direction.
