“For God did send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:17
Many of us would be appalled if we heard a doctor was making decisions on which patients she would offer her best practice and withholding care from others.
We would find this to be unethical; a violation of an oath the doctor made.
And yet, too often, we can think that God plays favorites. We can think that God rewards and blesses some people and curses others.
This clarifying statement of Jesus above reminds us that God does not play a limited rescue mission by sending Jesus into the world. Jesus’ offering himself as the greatest human example of love is a cosmological rescue. In simpler terms, Jesus redeems all of creation, collectively and individually.
Paul later says that we have been rescued from death by the gift of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ.
The energy of love that flowed through Jesus is all about making peace in every relationship. May the energy of love that was Christ Jesus flow through you today as you make peace in all your relationships.
